The Alphabet
|
||
The Alphabet option is only available for the French version. With this option you can do two things,
either learn the alphabet or practice spelling.
The alphabet window allows you to step through the alphabet using the blue arrow button and hear the
pronunciation of letters.
The Spelling Drill exercise is shown below. With Lexis Rex you can learn to spell in two ways. One way is to use the Flash Card Viewer testing mode and set the "Let me type my answer" menu option. In this way you learn the word translation and spelling at the same time. With the Spelling Drill the emphasis is on hearing the words, as well as understanding the sentence context.
The top of the window displays what is being said by the French speaker. "Veuillez orthographier" means "Please spell". After this you can see the speaker button where the word to be spelled would be. You can press this button any time to hear the word again. "comme dans la phrase" means "as in the sentence" which follows. The underlined space shows where the word fits in the sentence. You can listen to the sentence again using the speaker button following it. Once you have understood the word being spoken (in this case "biens"), you can type it into the white area as shown and hit return (or press the As you can see I got this one wrong (if I had of listened carefully I might have realised a plural was required), but if you get it right the bar graph down the bottom will show you how much of this level you have spelled correctly. The levels are based on how common the words are. The number of available levels is based on how many audio tracks there are for words. Don't forget you can use the Letter Tool if an accented letter is required. |
